RECAP

Hawks get the upset win in a key contest to decide the Big Ten championship. The Hawks held Purdue's star center Joe Barry Carroll to only 7 points, missing his last nine shots, and ending the game 1 for 13 shooting. He had scored 36 points last time he was in Iowa City. Purdue only shot 36% from the field in the second half, and the Hawks were able to extend their lead to win by 15 points.

Steve Krafcisin played well defensively, and went 9-for-15 from the field for 18 points and 8 rebounds. Kenny Arnold led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

They would play one more time this season at the NCAA semifinal consolation game.
