The Hawks traded possessions, and pinned Michigan on their own 11-yard line, but the Wolverines methodically moved downfield to take a 7-0 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Braeden Jackson tied the game with a 99-yard kickoff return. Michigan responded with a 41-yard FG. The Iowa offense struggled to move the ball, but the defense held strong, stopping the Wolverines on a 4th and 1. Despite the lack of offense, Iowa trailed only 10-7.

In the second half, Michigan had two long drives deep into Iowa territory, but only came away with 3 points. Deshaun Lee got a key interception on the 2-yard line. The offense woke up finally and drove down 75 yards on 7 plays to take a 14-13 lead. A fluke deflection and reception by DJ Vonnahme kept the drive going, and Hank Brown connected with Reece Vander Zee on a 16-yard TD pass early in the 4th quarter.

Michigan responded with a quick TD to retake the lead 19-14 but missed the 2-point conversion. Iowa got the ball back with 5 minutes left trailing by 5. Iowa faced a 4th and 1 on the Michigan 28-yard line, but a false start forced them into a long FG, but the 51-yard FG was wide right. The Iowa defense forced a Michigan punt to get one more chance to win, but got the ball back with under 2 minutes left on their own 9-yard line. Iowa drove down to the Michigan 16-yard line with 2 seconds left after Addison Ostrenga caught his own deflected ball. An injured Michigan player allowed Iowa to set up the final play, where Brown found Vander Zee in the end zone for the game-winning TD as time expired.

It was the first ranked win on the road since 2015 vs #20 Northwestern, and first win at Michigan since 2010. The defense held Michigan to 3 points despite being in the red zone three different times. Michigan controlled most of the game, but Iowa kept it close enough to be in position to win.

Brown finished 21 of 35 for 227 yards and 2 TDs and no interceptions. Iowa only rushed for 58 yards on 24 carries. The defense gave up 429 total yards, but only 19 points. Vander Zee had 5 catches for 66 yards and 2 TDs. On defense, Zach Lutmer led the Hawks with 12 tackles, Cam Buffington had 11 tackles and Landyn Van Kekerix had 10 tackles. Boston Everitt landed 3 punts inside the 20, including 2 inside the 5-yard line, and averaged 42.3 yards per punt.
