9th-seeded Iowa was making their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 1987, and the 4th-seeded Nebraska was making its first ever appearance. They split the regular season series, each winning at home. The Hawks fell behind by 10 points early (16-6), but fought back to within 2 points. Both teams got hot from 3-point range, and the Cornhuskers took a 38-28 lead with 5 minutes remaining. Iowa was able to cut the deficit to 3 points with a 3-pointer at the end of the first half. Both teams made 7 threes.

Iowa tied the game at 50 within the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half, and tied the game again at 65 with 5 minutes remaining. Bennett Stirtz gave Iowa it's first lead with a 3-pointer with 2 minutes left. Tate Sage hit a 3-pointer with 1:30 left to give Iowa a 71-65 lead. Nebraska cut the lead to 3 with another three, and Iowa led 71-68 with 1 minute left. Alvaro Folgueiras broke free on an inbounds play and was fouled with only 4 Nebraska players on the court. He was fouled, converting on a free throw and 3-point play to take a 74-68 lead with 45 seconds left. A dunk by Folgueiras sealed the game. The Hawks ended the game on a 15-6 run. They advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in 39 years (1986-87 season).

Stirtz led Iowa with 20 points. Off the bench, Sage added 19 points (4 threes) and grabbed 8 rebounds, and Folgueiras added 16 points. The bench outscored Nebraska's bench 38-20.
